calorie shifting diet - is this another fad diet or does it work?

by Kevin Prott

A calorie shifting diet is a specific weight loss technique that attempts to stop the natural process of your metabolism slowing down. Your metabolism slows down naturally when you begin to eat less as a result of a diet. This is why a calorie shifting diet can be so effective; when you proceed with a normal low calorie diet your metabolism grinds almost to a halt. This is due to the fact that your body is designed to store a certain amount of fats. When the fat you have stored within your body comes under threat by a diet; your metabolism will effectively slow down to help your body compensate for this.

A calorie shifting diet is a way to work against nature and the way our bodies are designed. If you follow a calorie shifting diet, your metabolism will not become slower as your body does not realise that its fat stores are actually threatened.

Take for example; if you were following a strict 1000 calorie a day diet you would probably not lose any weight. So instead of this you alter the amounts of calories that your body gets. So you could have 100 calories one day and then the next day eat 1200, then you could go back down to 900 a day and so on. This way your body does not become militant to the specific amounts of calories and as it never knows what it is going to get; your metabolism works at its normal fast rate. You are in effect playing a trick against your body.

Many people who have used a calorie shifting diet have raved about the results it produced. Another advantage to changing your calories is that you are less likely to snack as you can eat more some days than others. You can also have a wider variety of foods and snacks, so again you are less likely to abandon the diet only a few weeks later.

A good calorie shifting diet to follow is that for 4 days out of the week you could eat the same amount of calories and eat low fat foods. Then you could have 3 days of the week eating a higher consumption of calories and in effect eating anything you want. Then after the 3 days you go back to the strict level of calories. This will work in the exact same way and will help your metabolism stay fast to ensure you actually lose the weight you set out to lose.

Remember that the human body adapts well, and it adapts quickly. Therefore it’s important that you never have the same calorie count twice in a row. Change it up regularly, otherwise your body will soon learn what days to expect more calories, and what days to expect less. Keep a journal so you know how many calories you’ve had on any particular day. Never get in a rut! Change, change, change!

So if you have found that you lose little to no weight when on a regular diet, it is definitely time to start thinking about using a calorie shifting diet, you will not be disappointed with the results.

Oh and one more very important thing - drink lots of water! Yes, water is good. It helps to flush out toxic wastes in your body and ensures that your body is not retaining water because of the lack of it.
