the safer path to burning more calories

So you’ve decided you’re going to lose weight. It should be simple, right? You’ll just skip a couple meals a day and do 500 pushups a day. You have to shed some pounds that way, right? Wrong. In the real world, it’s just not that simple, because if you don’t have a better-thought-out plan than that, you’re body will actually fight against you in order to keep the stores of fat it has set aside for the future.

However, weight loss is possible if you learn the proper strategy. The following are some of the best ways we’ve found to increase your body’s metabolism and in the process burn calories.

Make green tea a regular part of your daily diet. Health experts recommend drinking it three times a day or more, because it energizes your metabolism, preventing it from getting too low as you burn calories. The benefits of green tea are due to both the caffeine content as well as certain other chemicals that help keep your metabolic rate at a high level.

You have to keep your workouts ever changing. Don’t get stuck in a rut and train at the same times and doing the same exercise. Your body will soon become used to it and stop working with you and start working against you. Not only will your body get bored but so will you. Keep your workouts fresh and different and remember to change the intensity and the difficultly of the exercise program as you become more proficient.

Without adding any more time to your workout schedule, add to its intensity. Throw a couple more weights on the barbell or add more resistance to whatever exercises you’re doing. If you’re creative, there are any number of ways to make your workout more intense without lengthening the time.

Develop some “nervous habits”. Really! Start tapping your fingers or your legs; click your fingers. Every little movement adds to the number of calories you burn.

Eat a healthy, balanced and nutritious diet. Starving yourself will not make you think; it will only make you ill. Your metabolism will slow down to a complete halt and you will stop losing any weight.

Don’t forget the liquids. Fluids, especially water, should be a part of any healthy diet. Most health experts suggest the equivalent of five bottles of water daily. Add more water, and your metabolism will increase, which causes you to burn more calories faster.

Get out and enjoy the sun! Some people get caught in the rut of staying in the gym. Instead, spend some time walking or running outside in the fresh air. Research shows that people stick with their exercise program longer when a significant portion of it is done outside.

Losing weight doesnt have to be complicated; now you know how to burn more calories quickly and with minimum of effort, you will be that slender, sleek and toned person you have always wanted to be.

calorie shifting diet - is this another fad diet or does it work?

A calorie shifting diet is a specific weight loss technique that attempts to stop the natural process of your metabolism slowing down. Your metabolism slows down naturally when you begin to eat less as a result of a diet. This is why a calorie shifting diet can be so effective; when you proceed with a normal low calorie diet your metabolism grinds almost to a halt. This is due to the fact that your body is designed to store a certain amount of fats. When the fat you have stored within your body comes under threat by a diet; your metabolism will effectively slow down to help your body compensate for this.

A calorie shifting diet is a way to work against nature and the way our bodies are designed. If you follow a calorie shifting diet, your metabolism will not become slower as your body does not realise that its fat stores are actually threatened.

Take for example; if you were following a strict 1000 calorie a day diet you would probably not lose any weight. So instead of this you alter the amounts of calories that your body gets. So you could have 100 calories one day and then the next day eat 1200, then you could go back down to 900 a day and so on. This way your body does not become militant to the specific amounts of calories and as it never knows what it is going to get; your metabolism works at its normal fast rate. You are in effect playing a trick against your body.

Many people who have used a calorie shifting diet have raved about the results it produced. Another advantage to changing your calories is that you are less likely to snack as you can eat more some days than others. You can also have a wider variety of foods and snacks, so again you are less likely to abandon the diet only a few weeks later.

A good calorie shifting diet to follow is that for 4 days out of the week you could eat the same amount of calories and eat low fat foods. Then you could have 3 days of the week eating a higher consumption of calories and in effect eating anything you want. Then after the 3 days you go back to the strict level of calories. This will work in the exact same way and will help your metabolism stay fast to ensure you actually lose the weight you set out to lose.

Remember that the human body adapts well, and it adapts quickly. Therefore it’s important that you never have the same calorie count twice in a row. Change it up regularly, otherwise your body will soon learn what days to expect more calories, and what days to expect less. Keep a journal so you know how many calories you’ve had on any particular day. Never get in a rut! Change, change, change!

So if you have found that you lose little to no weight when on a regular diet, it is definitely time to start thinking about using a calorie shifting diet, you will not be disappointed with the results.

Oh and one more very important thing - drink lots of water! Yes, water is good. It helps to flush out toxic wastes in your body and ensures that your body is not retaining water because of the lack of it.

proven tips, tools and tactics to lose weight…

If you are sincere about wanting to lose weight, and more importantly keep it off it couldn’t be simpler. Just adapt the tips below, mix with some daily exercise like a 40 minute walk and the pounds should start melting away. Just remember that you must adapt these changes for life, not just until you reach your desired weight

- 1 - If you are eating out, try to select salads, vegetables and white meats (as long as they are not covered with batter, crumbs or have been fried.) If there is a sauce with the meal as the waiter if you can have it on the side or in a separate dish, then use your fork to apply sparingly as the amount of calories in some of these sauces would make you cry! - 2 - Aim to exercise for45- 60 minutes at least 4 times per week. One way I found to help pick up the pace is to walk like you are running late for a very important meeting. Try to find a friend to walk with and encourage each other to keep going. - 3 - Ensure that your friends and family know that you are trying to change your eating habits and ask that they respect this and don’t try to tempt you - you know what I mean “Go one, just have one, it won’t matter!”. This doesn’t help you at all, and you should try to avoid these people if at all possible during this time. - 4 - It is important that you eat breakfast every morning, this is the most important meal of the day, it helps to get your metabolism burning. It will also help you avoid the mid morning snack attack! - 5 - Limit your alcohol intake; most drinks are very high in calories, especially considering you normally mix them with even more calories i.e. the soft drink mixers. - 6 - Make an effort to get hold of some low fat, low calorie recipes. If you can’t afford to buy some new recipe books or magazines then either look online (you will find lots of great sites) or try your local library. - 7 - Make sure you have some low fat frozen meals in stock for the days when you just don’t feel like cooking. When shopping for these try to stick to meals with under 10 grams of fat (for the total meal) but also make sure you check out the sodium content, if it contains more than 800-900 give it a miss as high sodium diet is very bad for your health. - 8 - Serve your meal on a smaller plate, this makes you feel that you are not being deprived and always sit down to a meal. If eat on the run you can easily ‘forget’ that you have already eaten the previous meal and be tempted to eat more. - 9 - Stop drinking soda pop as it is packed with sugar. Don’t switch to diet drinks as there is a lot of evidence that the chemicals used to sweeten the drinks are extremely dangerous just drink water instead, if you don’t like it plain add a squeeze of either lemon or lime, this makes it very refreshing. - 10 - Take your lunch with you to work or school as often as possible (at least twice a week); this will help you to avoid situations where it could be easy to break your diet as there are no healthy choices at the local diner.

Most importantly remember that if you slip up and overindulge don’t give in, just continue on with this healthier eating plan!

Get Thinner And Stay Thinner

It is always the way, you start to do well on a diet and start to see results. Then when you everything is going great you start to slip a bit and put it all back on again! Here are some tips to help you to lose weight and keep that weight off for good.

Consume food in small rations - most health experts agree that the key to losing weight permanently is to consume several small snacks per day rather than two or three very large mealtimes. The theory behind eating lesser portions is that when you snack on small meals it gives your body a better chance to burn it off as fuel rather than store it as fat.

A lot of us think the aim of eating is to empty the plate, that is great if you put a reasonable amount on there. But if you put more on there than your body needs you are just going to be clogging your body up. Take the time to eat slower so you can pay attention to your body and see when it feels full. Also make sure you always leave at least 1 thing on your plate, this will break the habit of having to eat everything so you don’t feel guilty when you are full.

We all explain away our behavior so that we can rationalize what we do. The same goes for cleaning the plate, we realize that we are privileged to live in a society where food is abundant and we feel guilty therefore to leave any. If you have that attitude then how about this, put less on the plate! Then it doesn’t matter if you finish everything or not. Stop building skyscrapers of food on your plate and just have a nice amount, you will be surprised what a reasonable sized meal looks like.

Once you start to eat less you find that your crave less, but you are just as happy with the meal amount. You won’t starve by cutting down your meal sizes, it may take a while for your body and mind to adjust, but it will and then it will be much happier that you don’t overload it and so will you.

It is a lot easier to be tempted if you have temptation in sight - get rid of all the bad food from your cupboards etc. If people in your house want that kind of food then get them to keep it in the garage instead! That way they me be less tempted as well as it is harder to go and get. You will find it much easier to stick to your healthy eating routine when you do not tempt yourself every time you walk into the kitchen.

Now there will be times when you are challenged by events or people around you. Learn to be able to walk away from situations where you are going to be tempted. If you family bring fish and chips home, eat your healthy dinner in the living room away from them. If watching cooking shows leaves you hungry then make sure you are doing something else when they are on so you don’t start watching them.

Losing weight is easy, but it is keeping that weight off that is hard. You need to strong and take a step back from your lifestyle and evaluate it. If you really want to keep the weight off then you have to be strong and follow the guidelines above, you can do it though, and the results will be well worth it.

Ancient Greek Fighting Techniques

Monday, February 25th, 2008
by Trevelyan Kian

When most people think of martial arts, the first region that comes to mind is Asia. This is totally understandable; that continent is after all where many of the world’s most popular fighting arts originated.

Karate, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Taekwondothe list of fighting styles and hand-to-hand combat disciplines that originated from Asia is seemingly endless.

But did you know that it is possibly Greece and not Asia that created one of the oldest martial arts in the world? This fighting style is known as Pankration. Not only did it influence many fighting styles around the world, it is still being used by fighting enthusiast to this day.

The best fighting and hand-to-hand combative styles closely resemble Greek fighting techniques. If anything, the Greek techniques often rival many of the other styles.

Pankration uses a combination of many different techniques that are also commonly used in other fighting styles, such as boxing, wrestling, striking and kicking. It is also here where techniques such as joint locking and the use of pressure points first came into widespread use.

The use of physical strength when fighting an opponent is often not the focus in many martial arts styles. In some cases, strength is disregarded completely.

On the other hand, strength is important in many Greek fighting techniques. Good examples including striking and grappling techniques.

In fact, the very name Pankration means all strength. It is comprised of two Greek words that respectively mean “all” (pan) and “strength” or “force” (kratos).

Although Pankration still exists today, it has been greatly modified. In some cases, Pankration is less like the fighting art practiced in ancient Greece and more like a hybrid form of kickboxing.

There is also some degree of blurring with the highly popular competitive sporting event that is known as mixed martial arts. Many mixed martial arts techniques actually stem from the Greek fighting techniques of the earliest days of Pankration.

In any case, the Greek martial art still exists at least partly through the techniques used in these newer martial arts, and efforts are being made to get it accepted into the Olympic games once again in the future.
